DENVER (AP) — A slow-moving snowstorm is giving Colorado an early taste of taste of winter.

A slow-moving storm has dumped more than 2 feet of snow on parts of the state. It's expected to be the strongest October snowstorm in Colorado in 12 years.

Accumulation totals weren't immediately eye-popping, just a couple inches in Grand Junction and about the same in Denver. But forecasters say the storm is moving so slowly it could leave more than a foot of snow in many areas before it oves east into Kansas on Thursday.

Police in Denver said they were seeing the usual weather-related fender-benders during a snowy morning commute. But so far there were no serious accidents.

Several school districts were closed or delayed because of the season's first big storm. The snowy weather has also prompted long lines in auto shops as drivers scramble for snow tires.
