DENVER (AP) -- Colorado is bracing for a second wave of wintry weather, with up to 16 inches of snow expected in the mountains by Wednesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service says heavy snowfall at lower elevations and rain in Denver and other Front Range cities could make travel hazardous.

The Weather Service says the deepest accumulation will be above 6,500 feet elevation, with depths of 6 to 16 inches above 7,000 feet.

A winter storm warning will be in effect for the northern and central mountains from midnight Tuesday until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

On Monday, at least 3 inches of snow fell in parts of the foothills west of Denver.
