EL PASO COUNTY, COLO. -- Even though summer is right around the corner, the scene looks like the middle of winter on top of Pikes Peak.

A recent series of storms has brought more than four feet of snow to the area above timberline, and the cold and wind accompany it. Parking is somewhat limited due to snowdrifts.

Long-time Pikes Peak employee Rick Johnson said he has not seen this much snow this late in the season for the last 20 years.

The road is dry to the top as of June 9, 2009. However, snow is piled on the sides of the road. Visitors to the top can expect wind chills in the 0-10 degree range.

Because of the snow, the Forest Service is recommending people not climb to the summit.
