HERINGTON, Kan. (AP) -- A state biologist said a mountain lion from Colorado strolled through parts of Kansas this spring.
Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks biologist Matt Peek said it is only the third confirmed sighting of a mountain lion in Kansas in 106 years.
Peek told the Wildlife and Parks Commission on Thursday that Colorado biologists trapped the young male, which weighed about 90 pounds, and released it with a GPS collar near Estes Park last October.
The Wichita Eagle reports that Peck said the cat entered Kansas in Cheyenne County and was in the state from March 5-25.
It moved south through western counties before heading back to Colorado.
Biologists said the cat eventually moved through Oklahoma and Texas before making it New Mexico.
