COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- For Mike and Tracy Hermanstorfer the past seven days have been an emotional roller coaster. The family has done more than two dozen television interviews, receiving calls from across the nation and globe.

But the Hermanstorfers are taking it all in stride, just happy to have the chance to tell their amazing story.

"We were actually due Jan. 5, and I woke up Christmas Eve at five in the morning and my water decided to break," Tracey Hermanstorfer said.

So the Hermanstorfers drove to Memorial Hospital, checked in and waited. Hours passed with little excitemen,t so after receiving an epidural Tracey said she decided to take a nap.

That is when Mike said the nightmare started.

"I guess as soon as he grabbed my hand and looked down at it he noticed it was blue and then the nurse looked up at my face and noticed it was gray, then they started calling my name and slapping my face and I guess I opened one eye and then closed it and that is when they lost my heart," Tracey said.

Tracey's heart had completely stopped beating and she was also no longer breathing, apparently suffering cardiac arrest.

After calling out a Code Blue, doctors and nurses scrambled to resuscitate her to no avail. After a few minutes had passed they decided to turn their attention to baby Coltyn, performing an emergency Ceasarian-section.

"I guess right after they took Coltyn out was when they got a faint heartbeat," Tracey said.

Against all odds, Tracey was coming back to life.

Meanwhile doctors worked to resuscitate baby Coltyn, who was also lifeless. After what seemed like an eternity, he too started breathing, according to medical staff.

"I was a big tornado at that point in time. I was unbelievably happy that my son was now back and perfectly fine, but then I flip around again and I am still worried about my wife," Mike said.

After doctors finished her C-section, Tracey said she began to regain consciousness and was taken to the intensive care unit for observation.

The Hermastorfers said doctors still do not know what happened and why.

"Right now it is a total mystery. They have done every test they could think of to find what was wrong, and I have come back perfectly healthy," Tracey said.

And doctors said baby Coltyn is also in great health.

Now Mike, Tracey, Coltyn and his two older brothers, Austin and Canyon, are thanking God for their Christmas miracle.

"It has brought things in a whole lot tighter, and it definitely has put a whole new meaning on Christmas," Mike said.

An account has been set up for baby Coltyn to help with his hospital bills.

Those interested in donating to the fund can go to any First Bank location and make a contribution to the "Miracle Baby" account.
