FORT CARSON, COLO. -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of four soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.  They died Oct. 15 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their vehicle with an improvised explosive device.  They were assigned to the 569th Mobility Augmentation Company, 4th Engineer Battalion, Fort Carson.

Killed were: 

Staff Sgt. Glen H. Stivison, Jr., 34, of Blairsville, Pa. He joined the Army in September 1996 and previously was deployed to Iraq (Feb. 2009 - May 2009). From there his unit was sent to Afghanistan. Stivison worked as a combat engineer.  His awards include:Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal - 7, Army Good Conduct Medal - 4, National Defense Service Medal,  Korea Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon - 2, Driver Mechanic Badge.

Spc. Jesus O. Flores, Jr., 28, of La Mirada, Calif. He joined the Army in December 2003. He previously served in Iraq (Feb. 2009 - May 2009) before his unit was sent to Afghanistan in May 2009. He worked as a combat engineer. His awards include: National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon. 

Spc. Daniel C. Lawson, 33, of Deerfield Beach, Fla. He joined the Army in January 2008. His unit was first sent to Iraq February 2009, then in May 2009, was sent to Afghanistan. He worked as a combat engineer. His awards include: National Defense Service Medal , Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/ Campaign Star, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star.

Pfc. Brandon M. Styer, 19, of Lancaster, Pa. He joined the Army in September 2008 and worked as a combat engineer. He was first deployed to Iraq in February 2009, then sent in May 2009 to Afghanistan. His awards include: National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/ Campaign Star, Iraq Campaign Medal w/ Campaign Star, Combat Action Badge.
