COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Several people are posing as Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU) workers to get into homes and rob them.

Police say at least four home invasions have happened in recent months. Officials tell FOX21 News people are posing as workers by wearing an orange safety vest, hard hat and carrying clipboards.

“Our employees don't actually wear a standard uniform so just because somebody has a logo on their shirt or they may have something that looks like a uniform, doesn't mean they are an employee,” said Patrice Quintero with CSU.

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) told FOX21 News in all cases the suspects will introduce themselves as a Colorado Springs Utilities employee and say they need to inspect the home. Once they are allowed inside the home, police say additional suspects are hiding nearby to rush inside and rob the homeowner.

“If you have someone who comes to your home, my first tip would be, meet them out on the porch and then ask for some photo identification. Every Colorado Springs Utilities employee must carry a photo I.D.,” said Quintero.

Don't Let Them In

Don't meet these guys on the porch. If COS Utilities makes an unannounced call, DO NOT even open the door. If you call this person's bluff, I highly doubt they are going to back down.
