COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- At Centennial Elementary students climb, jump, hop, skip and run.
It is all part of an after school program called "Keep it Moving" or KIM.
"What I like about it is I can spend a lot of time with my best friends, and I get to exercise," fifth grader Alex Gomez-Gonzales said.
Gomez-Gonzales said it is important to work out because it keeps your mind and body healthy.
Coach Kelly Lane runs the program, he said you're never too young to work out.
"It is important to start being active early in your life just to understand that it is a lifestyle choice, to be active 30 or 60 minutes a day," Coach Lane said.
Lane said KIM is also at two other elementary schools in the district. He said the kids are asked to record their work and are then rewarded for time spent.
"We do a quarterly celebration where the kids earn prizes, and then actually at the end of the semester we are going to have a big celebration at the YMCA with all the kids from the three schools for all their hard work," Lane said.
The students said they enjoy spending time with their classmates and added they feel better when the workout is over.
"I think it is a really good program and when you come you feel really energized, and instead of just sitting down and watching TV," third Grader Briana Porcadilla said.
"Keep it Moving" is a partnership of several organizations involved in a community project called Pioneering a Healthier Colorado Springs.
