CREEDE, Colo. (AP) -- A memorial service is planned for a police chief in rural southwest Colorado who committed suicide.

The service for 51-year-old South Fork Police Chief Robert Harris will be held Wednesday afternoon in Creede, about 20 miles from South Fork. Authorities say Harris was found dead in his home in Creede on Thursday.

The Mineral County coroner says Harris died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The coroner would not say who found Harris' body and no other details of his death were released.

Harris retired from the Army in 2004 after a 28-year career and was recently named police chief in South Fork.
