EL PASO COUNTY, COLO. -- A portion of Mount Herman Road is closed after an accident there left a 19-year-old in critical but stable condition.

Bryan Tremblay was heading down Mount Herman Road west of Monument around 11 p.m. Friday when he lost control at a wash-out about a 4.5 miles up the road. Tremblay's car then rolled about 140 feet down an embankment.

it wasn't until around 9:00 the next morning that some passersby found him.

"It was kind of obvious something had just happened and it didn't hurt to go down there and see if someone was there," said Matt McCabe, one of the people who found Tremblay.

Tremblay had crawled out of his car and pulled himself about 40 feet up the embankment.

"He was a fighter and wanted to survive," McCabe said.

Tremblay is currently in the ICU at Penrose Hospital with a skull fracture. Doctors are monitoring his brain swelling.

"Because what we don't want to do is allow the brain to continue swelling and there to be brain damage or brain death," said Dr. Roger Nagy, Medical Director of trauma services at Penrose Hospital.

"Pray -- he's still not out of the woods. He's got serious head injuries," McCabe said.

About 25 people helped get Tremblay to safety. His family says their help and prays are making all the difference.

"The folks at the scene had the presence of mind to do all the right things to get him safe and to get him the help he needed," Nagy said.

Tremblay's doctor says he had a big milestone yesterday when Tremblay woke up and was able to move around. However, Tremblay is still sedated and it will be awhile before doctors can determine exactly how much brain damage he suffered in the accident.

Tremblay's family asks for prayer and thanks everyone for their support.
