COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A quiet Sunday morning suddenly changed for residents in the 5400 block of Ansel Drive when a truck careened through their backyards, down the street and into a garage.
Inis Taylor saw the whole thing happen from her backyard.
"My husband and I were standing on our back deck trying to decide if we wanted to go for a bike ride or not when we saw the truck come across the street and into the yards of our neighbors. So we decided to call 911 and see if anybody got hurt and at that point we heard more engine noises and saw the truck hit our car and go into our garage," Taylor said.
At least three fences were destroyed along with a swingset, several trees and a garage filled with cars. Police believe the driver lost control while having a seizure.
They said there were three children in the truck at the time of the accident.
"His oldest son who is approximately 10 years old tried to reach to the front and grab the brake or steering wheel but was not able to, so this car was just veering off of trees and everything else until it came to rest," Sgt. Taylor with the Colorado Springs Police Department said.
Luckily no one was hurt in the car or on the street, although police said the driver and his children were taken to the hospital to be checked out.
As for Taylor and her family, they said they were still in a state of shock and disbelief.
"So many times you see it on the news, and when it happens to you it is very different. I am still shaking," Taylor said.
Police said the truck was going around 45 miles per hour when it struck the first fence. The driver has been cited for careless driving.
