COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Fire Investigators have ruled an afternoon fire today at 2224 Stepping Stones Way as accidental careless smoking.
A female fatality was reported in the incident.
Investigators believe the victim was smoking while using medical oxygen. The victim's name and cause of death are pending the completed coroner's report.
The call was dispatched at 12:19 p.m. and the first responding engine arrived at 12:24 p.m.
The victim is believed to have been home alone at the time of the incident. Damage to the townhome and its contents is estimated at approximately $10,000.
This is the city's third fire fatality this year.
