COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Michael Jackson fans, get ready. "Thrill the World" is coming to Colorado Springs.
An annual event for charity, "Thrill the World" is also a tribute to the late King of Pop.
What initially started out as a "cool idea" has since exploded into an international dance phenomenon spanning five continents.
Tuesday a group of southern Colorado residents gathered to practice the iconic dance, the moves millions of fans have grown to love.
The performers, with Peaks and Pasties, say they hope to bring together hundreds in the Pikes Peak region for a record-breaking Thrill the World event.
"It is an international event, and we learned about it online that some girl who was in her teens started this huge event in 2006 to get as many people doing Thrill the World at the same time as possible, which we thought was an awesome idea," Lindzey Martucci said.
Martucci has been performing the dance for years. She said her group is looking forward to the big Thrill the World event slated for Saturday night.
Martucci said they are inviting everyone who wants to learn to participate.
"We are all going to be thrillered out, looking like zombies and have lots of blood, so people can come out looking like a zombie or normal. We just want everyone," Martucci said.
Whether you have two left feet, or consider yourself a professional, Martucci and her fellow performers say it is all in good fun. She said what a better way to remember the late King of Pop.
"This definitely means more this year than any other year prior, because he is no longer with us."
If you would like to learn the Thriller dance you can go to the Bijou Bar and Grill Thursday at 8 p.m., or South Side Johnny's Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
The simultaneous "Thrill the World" event will then take place right after the rehearsal on Saturday.
