ASPEN, Colo. (AP) -- Two film companies are battling in court over whether one can stop the other from using the name of legendary ski filmmaker Warren Miller.
Miller retired from film making in 2000 after scores of movies with his signature combination of loud music and extreme skiing, but he appears this year in the ski movie "Refresh," by Denver-based Level 1 Productions.
His old company, Warren Miller Entertainment, filed suit in U.S. District Court in Denver, claiming trademark infringement because it owns the rights to the name "Warren Miller." Warren Miller Entertainment is owned by outdoor magazine publisher Bonnier Corp.
Miller has asked to intervene in the case. His attorney says his noncompete clause with Warren Miller Entertainment expired in 1999.
The case is pending.
