COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Leaving their family and friends -- the Baileys recently moved to Colorado Springs in hopes of better treatment for their daughter Elizabeth.
She is only 5 years-old and has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. Now with medical bills only getting higher, a fundraiser is in place to help this devoted family get through what are very tough times.
"On march 12th last year she had a perfectly normal day. She was a normal 5 year-old and then very abruptly she stopped being able to swallow.," says Elizabeth's mother Alia Bailey.
The family rushed young Elizabeth to the hospital, only to hear a diagnosed they never imagined. It was an aggressive brain stem tumor that was starting to impact normal functions.
Alia and Joshua Bailey find it challenging to cope with such a terrifying reality -- put in this circumstance of uncertainty.
"Being the dad is hard to see your child suffer you know, and going through a tremendous thing more than what I can go through and seeing her strength and her happy smile on her good days. That breaks a dad because dads are supposed to make everything o.k., and this is something that I can't make o.k. I just have to basically have to trust God and go with what the doctors have to say. So, that's tough for a dad," explains Joshua Bailey.
"Oh my gosh. It's the absolute worst moment of your life, ever. It's really hard," adds Alia.
Along with the fear comes optimism and prayer for the Baileys with the ups and downs of each day. They can only have faith while hoping the best for their little girl.
"Yeah, it's really scary, but good people come along. God has worked so many miracles in our life, it starts being o.k.," says Alia.
Good people like 98.9 Magic morning man George McFly and IT'z family fun center.
"Elizabeth Bailey in Monument needs our help," pleads McFly.
"it actually feels really great that IT'z is a part of this. We like to give back to the community," says IT'z spokesperson Samantha Conklin.
Joshua still has his business in Pegosa Springs and has to commute while Alia manages the family, but Elizabeth is strong and making progress.
So with the increasing cost of medical and relocation expenses, here is what is happening:
Friday at IT'z from 3pm to 8pm for just $1.98, that gets you in where you will get food, drinks and a game card along with entertainment. The best part, while you have fun -- 50 percent of proceeds will go to help the Bailey family.
