PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) -- Emergency responders from across the nation are training in southern Colorado for terrorist attacks, natural disasters and accidents on railroads, highways and waterways.
The new National Center for Emergency Response in Surface Transportation operates at the Transportation Technology Center, a federal test site outside Pueblo.
About 1,200 emergency responders from state, local and tribal agencies will take weeklong courses in groups of 36 over the next year.
The first year of the program is funded by a $5 million grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The center held a public dedication last week.
