MONUMENT, COLO. -- One group of creative people is bringing a little extra scariness to this Halloween.

An entire neighborhood has joined forces to turn their block into a pirate cove.

Each year at this time Larimer Creek Drive in Monument is transformed into Larimer Creek Cove -- a  place where ghost pirates rule and Halloween is the greatest day of the year.

What would make two grown men fight with plastic swords in the middle of this driveway in a seemingly normal suburban neighborhood?

Halloween. of course!

"Kids of all ages, big kids, little kids --  we all love pirates," said Cawfield, the ghost captain.

This amazing set-up sports a 30-foot pirate ship with a 35-foot mast.

"Us land-lovers decided it be time for us to set sail to the high seas, and so we decided two years ago it's time to make this dream come true," said Cawfield.

Of course, this year the grown-up children in this neighborhood had to make it bigger.

I'ts an unusual take on keeping up with the Joneses. Or in this case, the Davey Joneses.

"This year we be setting sail and we be battling against Davey Jones and his pirates," said Cawfield.

Otherwise known as the neighbors.

They built their own 25-foot version of the legendary Flying Dutchmen.

Both ships are fitted with air cannons so the ships can battle each other.

"What’s most rewarding to me is the kids. We bring their imaginations, we bring their dreams to life with me, Black Pearl and me crew," said the ghost captain.

Friday was a dry run for the big performance Saturday. There will be lots for kids to do and plenty of treats for all.

" Last year we had over 750 trick-or-treaters. Scallywags tried to steal me boat.  This year we expect even more," said Cawfield.

"They come into me cove here thinking they can steal me waters. that’s not going to happen," warned Cawfield.

Saturday the fun starts at noon.  There will more than 30 cast members in full costume. And it's all free.

If you want to attend, you can find the directions here.
