COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Have you got too much clutter around the house? Are you hanging on to those things that you haven't used in the last ten, fifteen or twenty years? Then my friends -- you may have a problem!
In this week's busy moms segment -- we look at Lyndsey Denny's full house, a busy mother of seven including quintuplets.
So for those spacially challenged -- unite! Taking that first step to clutter freedom isn't as difficult as you may think.
"The first step is admitting we have a problem and hopefully we can get some ideas and some tips. That's been the biggest drawback -- not having some insider information on how to manage the specific area in the house," said Denny. She continues, "I save way more than my husband. I don't think my husband would save anything if it were up to him -- and every time he goes to pick up a box, the general response is -- we have way too much crap!"
Family manager, coach and best friend to moms across southern Colorado, Cari Pemberton says it's a story she's heard many times before. "You know moms tend to be more sentimental about things that their children wear or created. Whereas, men tend to want to keep more of their goodies or electronic toys and such."
"Purge first. That's really the most important thing to do -- is get rid of what not is going to stay, then you know what you're dealing with," adds Pemberton.
Lyndsey also feels that just trying to get in the right mindset to cut the clutter is challenging enough.
Coach Pemberton says to choose one area to start, know the enemy and then dress for battle. "Get up early, put on some comfortable clothes, have a good breakfast and set the phone on vibrate. It helps if you can plan your project just as you would any big event," stresses Pemberton
She also says it's best to start in the area giving you the most grief and frustration to get that instant pay off and satisfaction.
